Mak Making by Jessica Wiseman

How to make a mask and decorate a mask:

Tools:
1.      Plaster Bandages
2.      Vaseline
3.      Scissors
4.      Bowls
5.      Towel
6.      Paint
7.      Decorations
8. Paint
9. Sand paper
10. Feathers
11. Sparkles
Etc…

Instructions:

Prepare your supplies.

You may want to put down some newspaper to help keep things clean.

Take a volunteer, or your own face, and cover it in Vaseline. Lather the eyebrows and hair line.

Cut the strips into pieces that will fit your face. Dip them in warm water, gently wipe off the excess. Place on your face and smooth out.

When covering the nose, make sure to make holes if you are also covering the mouth. You will need some way to breathe.

Make it 2-4 layers thick

Manipulate the bandages into whatever shape you want. You can do this as it sits on the person’s face, or you can wait for the base to dry and then add on.

Remove from face. If the mask breaks you can use more bandages to fix it. (Top left of mask)

Sandpaper the outside of the mask to smooth it.

Decorating:

Choose a color scheme.
(Mine was Green and blue hues, I will use this as an example.

Cover the mask in a base coat of green. Wait to dry.

Use yellow (a lighter color than base) to highlight the nose, cheekbones, chin, and forehead of the face. Let dry.
Contour with a darker color (temples, cheekbones, sides of nose, jaw line).
Cover mask in another coat of green; including over the highlighted areas. Let dry.
Highlight again. Let dry.
Repeat process until satisfied, ending with the highlight on top.

Find decorations and glue them to your mask. (Hot glue is best.) Be creative.
